Fitting a photo with the wrong aspect ratio
If your photo's aspect ratio doesn't match the required spec, simply stretching or shrinking it distorts the face. The right approach is to crop from the center to the target ratio first, then resize to the exact dimensions.
Producing several specs from one photo
If you need the same studio photo resized for a resume, a passport, and an employee badge, picking a preset for each and batch-processing them at once is much faster than calculating pixel dimensions by hand every time.
When the spec is given in cm, not pixels
Print shops ask for centimeters; online forms ask for pixels — it's easy to mix them up. For print, convert cm to pixels at 300dpi so quality doesn't suffer; for example, 3.5cm works out to roughly 413px.
