📐 What's the relationship between DPI and pixels?

DPI (dots per inch) is print density. Printed photos typically use 300DPI. Printing a 3.5×4.5cm passport photo at 300DPI needs about 413×531 pixels (based on 1 inch = 2.54cm). 72–96DPI is fine for screen display only, but for print it's safest to match the 300DPI pixel size.

  • Shrinking barely affects quality, but enlarging a small photo makes it blurry. Start from the largest original you have.
